Planning Blog: Locations, Participants, Health, Schedule

Image
Hey lovelies!! Welcome back to my blog! Today I'm going to go even further into the planning of how my group's opening scene came to be. Although planning this was so fun, there was also a lot of layers to it. I'll start by talking about our location. When first discussing about our location, we knew that it would have to be somewhere of a location region as well as a mall where people visit frequently. After conversing about it  we decided on Sawgrass Mall. We were satisfied with that at first the realized that we had an issue.  What we wanted to do would require us to be in a smaller and more confined room. After realizing that, we decided to back on the scratch board and make some compromises. With only a few minutes of deliberating, we decided to use a groupmates' house. With our location confirmed everything seems set.  So far we have all of our scenes set, assigned roles, and our location. Some of the things we're still looking into are the props we will need.

Planning Blog: Script

Image
Hiii scholars!!! Welcome back to the blog. Today my group and I worked on our script for our opening sequence. As you guys know,  When picking the  genre,  it was  a must  to do horror. After talking with the group horror would be the best bec ause it can go in so many directions. When you watch  movies,  some horror movies can have a touch of romance  or  comedy,  so it just  doesn't  limit you to the scary aspect. When brainstorming it was between  friends killing another or a random murder and honestly script wise  would be better for the friend killing another. So  essentially what  the script is that friends are  hanging out  when   suddenly   it goes  crazy. Then  suddenly  on e  of the friends  ended  up   d e ad wit h  a group of friends pointing fingers at who could have done it. Now these  won't  just be causal friends but extremely close friends  which makes the murder even more shocking and with all the tension it makes it harder to find the murderer.    Killer: Gio

Planning Blog: Title Design

Image
(Title card design)  Heyy scholars welcome back to my blog. Today we will be sketching some title designs for our opening sequence. Since our movie is in the horror genre, I wanted to stay true to the conventions of giving it an authentic feel. Based on our pitch, we decided that our title is going to be called “Murder Mystery”. With our main title (working title) , I want the majority of the fonts seen to be red. I also want to add a drippy effect to the letters, resembling blood in a way for that scary aspect. MURDER MYSTERY! For the color, as I said I want the font to be about dark reddish color for our main title. For certain credits, like the directed by, etc. the color will be dark and bold for example AGM PRODUCTIONS. I also wanted to be creative and make some of the titles different sizes within one word, such as HoRrOR or hOrRoR. It all depends on the color of our background.  The size of the font is important so that the audience is able to read the credits clearly. Through

Title Research: Dead Silence

Image
Hey scholars, welcome back.  The film that I chose to analyze is Dead Silence because it is a great representation of how a horror film should be.  The website I used wa s   Art of the Title What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?   The  titles  that are displayed  first  is the title of the film. It is in red  and has  a spooky looking font to add to the way that the movie is horror. The next titles  are from who made the film and a brief description of what to expect. Then it goes into naming everyone who helped contribute  to  making the film happen like the actors and what not.    What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? The images that are prioritized look like scenes from out the movie. They are images that give a feel f or what will happen in the movie without fully telling what exactly is going on. The movie is on a marionette that is very haunting and the image of him in the opening sequence adds fe ar.   How does the film establish a feel

Title Research: Murder by Death

Image
Heyy scholars, welcome back to the blog once again! How are you all? Today I will be talking about my title research with the movie murder by death.  -- What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?  The titles are the title of the movie and production and then it gives the name of all the actors. While it shows the cutouts of the actors it gives their names. The font is a roman, to give a old fashion vibe. Old west type of setting showing few shades of color. Also states anyone who contributed to the film.  -- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The first important image in the corpse on the floor with knives stabbed in their back. Then it shows throughout the opening sequence the reaction of all the actors (cutouts). This is showing that the main lead or mystery is the death of the corpse which was murder. But by who? Some seem shocked and others seem calm.  -- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from outside?  By the reactions of the actors

Title Research: Terrified…

Image
(Original title card from the film) Hey scholars, welcome back to my blog. Today we are researching opening sequences to movies. As you know our genre is horror….so let’s get into it!!! The movie I’ll be looking at is “Terrified”. A film made in 1963 by Paul Julian, it is known as one of the most ambiguous and haunting title sequences of his time. By being apart of the golden age of American film productions. Let’s dig deeper into its conventions. 1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence? During the opening sequence, the names of the actors were displayed as well as the different characters and directors/ producers were recognized. After the moments of terror, it framed the main title card and subsequent credits. The way the letters were added to the genre. It looked kind of broken like similar to structure of bones.  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  In the opening sequence, there were a lot of spooky things. We see a man drowning in an open gr

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
Heyy scholars!! Welcome back to my blog. It's been some time. Today I want to gush to you all about this new website I found. As I was conducting research for my short film, I stumbled upon Art of the Title. When I first clicked on the website, I am met with a colorful graphic of a woman's face. This is the graphic introducing the director and screenwriter Chloe Okuno's favorite title sequences. As I scroll through the website it features several opening titles and articles. I chose this website because it is easy to navigate. On the right hand side of the site, it offers options to look through several opening sequences. For an even wider selection, it allows you to look through an endless amount of your favorite designers and studios. If you still can not find your selection you are welcomed to search for it in the search box of the website. The videos on the website are of high quality and offer captions to better enjoy the clip. The website also goes into fur
