Genre Research: Romance….
Heyy scholars, welcome back to my blog!! Today we will be conducting research on one of the most watched genres ever….ROMANCE!!
Hey scholars welcome back!
Within movies they're certain genres that catch the watchers attention and certain things that keep it. Romance is always a safe option because it will always catch an audience's attention. It can go the sappy cute way or the sad yet still romantic which is why it is such a great genre. The projects I decided to research were Hallmark romance movies.
For romance the part that captures is the way the love story builds up from the bottom up or the history that is behind the relationship. What isn't appealing is the cliche aspect. Giving the audience a taste of something that isn't real and having them believe in a delusional state of reality. This is a non appealing aspect but besides that romance movies are nice to watch. Some examples are Love on the Sidelines, The Sweetest Heart, A Paris proposal and things of that nature.
Common sounds in Romance movies are ambient sound or love songs to add a more personal feel. This ensures that the audience is captured as music plus the dialogue would help keep the attention. Common editing ways are that the lighting is always light and neutral. Whenever watching a romance movie, the lighting is never dull maybe an exception would be the emotional climax of someone getting hurt but that's it.
The most used camera angles are closeups, longshots, two shots and medium shots. Close ups and long shots show how the character is feeling and helps us as an audience get a feel for how they are feeling in that present moment and show the background to help better understand what's going on. Two shots may help show the progression of the relationship to help understand were they are in the movie now. Medium shots show the characters emotion which is more less to show how we feel and more of how the character feels especially against the love interest.
The acting in romance movies are always emotional. The characters know how to play on to the emotional appeal to make the audience invested into the main characters relationship. The makeup is always bright and appealing to one's eye. Settings in romance movies will always be bake shops or stores or in the street, mostly some place to run into someone and fall in love.
In the hallmark movies they all run around the same theme, in The Sweetest Heart they fell in love in a bakery and In love in the sidelines they met as she was his personal assistant. All in places to fall in love and meet someone.
Yours Truly, A. LaFrance ;)
